The KSC CVD Screening Program exists to educate the Spaceport community about their individual risk for cardiovascular disease - this is accomplished through medical screening and health counseling. The CVD risk assessment (screening) is offered at least once a month for all KSC and CCAFS employees. Parameters measured include frequency of physical activity, blood pressure, weight, height, body mass index, total cholesterol (including HDL and LDL cholesterol), blood glucose and triglycerides.

All participants receive a risk profile letter that outlines their results. For those with high cholesterol levels, the HEWP staff provides counseling on dietary factors affecting cholesterol as well as physical activity options - follow-up appointments are encouraged. The CVD program schedule and forms can be found at: http://hewp.ksc.nasa.gov/heart.cfm. Note: Participants should fast for 12 hours and complete forms prior to the screening. |
